Sterling Heights, Michigan Attractions

Red Oaks Waterpark: It’s a family friendly waterpark that offers many different attractions. There’s a “wave action pool, Triple Flume water slide, children’s water playground with 68 different features, water play area for toddlers, and 990 foot moving with fitness walking program available”. The river ride, wave pool, and children’s water playground are heated. Also remember there are trained lifeguards on watch at all times, so not to worry about any drowning accidents. 

 

General Motors Heritage Center: The GM heritage center is the place where the GM heritage collection is exhibited. But it is also a corporate and special events venue, and as the place where the Corporation’s historic literature and artifacts are preserved which chronicle the company’s innovation. 

The Reptarium: The reptarium is a place where you can see hundreds of reptiles in their natural habitats, and get up close and learn about them. You can even pet them, or put them around your neck like the snakes there. It’s got quite a variety from giant Pythons to small Geckos, the range is quite wide. There’s even a store where you can buy plush versions of these reptiles, they will be a great souvenir for you. They’re open Fridays and Saturdays 4pm-9pm, and Sundays 3pm-8pm.

 

River Bends Park: With more than 850 acres of park land, this place is diverse in flora and fauna. The park is split into 2 different sections by the Clinton river. However a bridge was constructed to connect the 2 sections of the park. The Park can be entered through 5700 22 Mile road. If you enter through this spot there are picnic areas, shelters, restrooms, and entry points to the clinton river and hiking trails. The other entry point to the park is situated at 4101 River Bends drive. 

 

Freedom Hill County Park: This is a spacious outdoor park that’s 100 acres, and features an amphitheater. Many events are held here, including concerts and festivals. There’s also a trail called the Freedom trail that connects the park to metro beach. 

 

Thelma Spencer Park: This park has a 38 acre man made lake with all the facilities, including volleyball and tennis court, and even a soccer field. It also has a playground, horseshoe pits, and walking/biking trails.

 

Clawson Historical Museum: This museum is housed in a home built in 1919. It was originally a library, and gradually the museum took over the space to make room for its collections. It started in 1973, but by 1977 the library gave way to the museum as the collections had grown. The archives contain over 5000 photographs, which are in the process of being made digital. The archives hold quite a large collection of newspaper clippings as well. Magazines, Clothing Patterns, Periodicals, Catalogs, and Fashion books are also part of the collection.
